about

Our new version of this well-known melody composed by Seán Ó Riada sometime in the late 1960s but definitely as part of the bicentennial celebrations in 1969 of the poet Peadar Ó Doirnín (a poet, a teacher, a scribe and who most likely played the harp to his singing of his own songs. His songs have stood the test of time and are still sung in the oral song tradition). Primarily Martin's arrangement, it is dedicated to Irish women's societal suffering but also, to women's suffering generally throughout the world.
